Will the Wildcat be a presence in San Diego’s offense?

It could somewhat.

The Chargers installed the Wildcat offense Wednesday. One player who is plenty familiar in the offense is newly signed backup running back Ronnie Brown. Brown successfully ran the Wildcat offense in Miami. The Chargers have used the Wildcat in the past at times.

I checked in with Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. to get his thoughts on whether or not the Wildcat can work in San Diego. He’s sees a limited value.

“I think the Wildcat is pretty much a thing of the past, but what I do like about it, is that for a just a very few plays per game, it can turn 1st-and-10 into 2nd-and-5 pretty easily,” Williamson said. “Philip Rivers and Norv Turner like 2nd-and-5.”

While Williamson thinks the Wildcat can have a small role in San Diego, he is not counting on Brown supplying the help.

“I didn’t see anything from Brown last year to suggest that he can be effective,” Williamson said.
