Raiders' players stick to present day

OAKLAND -- Darrius Heyward-Bey was amazed by what he was hearing.

Allegations of Stickum in this day and age?

“Wow, that is crazy,” the Oakland receiver said after the Oakland Raiders' defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in overtime. “I know Freddie B. [Oakland great Fred Biletnikoff] used to do it back in the day but it was a different time and he is a Hall of Famer. It’s a different time now. They don’t let you do it. I just try to do it with what God gave me.”

Made famous by Biletnikoff and former Oakland cornerback Lester Hayes, Stickum has been long outlawed in the NFL. But it was disclosed Sunday the NFL is investigating the San Diego Chargers for using a Stickum-like substance last week in a loss to the Denver Broncos. The Chargers could lose at least one draft pick and be fined.

“I’ve never heard of anything like that,” Oakland defensive back Michael Huff said. “That’s from the old days. Guys never talk about it and you never see it. That is really crazy.”
