Here are some areas the Kansas City Chiefs need to focus on after a 31-13 loss at San Diego on Thursday night:
Recap: It was the same old stuff for the Chiefs. The only difference is they didn’t have to wait until Sunday to be beaten this week. The Chiefs fell to 1-7 and they are simply incapable of winning a game right now. They are clearly the worst team in the NFL and are on pace to have the No. 1 pick in the draft.
Biggest area to fix: Competition. The Chiefs are not competing. The Chiefs committed four turnovers at San Diego and now have 29 in half a season. They had 29 all of last season. It’s the highest turnover total through eight games in the NFL in 15 years. Kansas City still has not led in a game in regulation all season. The situation is dire.
Biggest area to build on: Third-down offense. The Chiefs converted on their first four third downs and 7-of-12 for the gmae. The Chiefs moved the ball well at times in this game. It showed them they can get down the field, but miscues keep the Chiefs from fulfilling their offensive potential.
What to watch for: The Chiefs play against former head coach Todd Haley and the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Monday Night Football” in Week 10. A lost season could be brightened with a prime-time win over Haley, now the Steelers’ offensive coordinator.
