Cards Mailbag: D.J. Humphries vs. Bobby Massie at RT will be among battles to watch

Welcome to #CardsMailbag, a weekly installment that allows you to ask me questions about the Arizona Cardinals throughout the week via Twitter@joshweinfuss. I'll answer them every weekend during the offseason. Make sure to use the hashtag #CardsMailbag.

@joshweinfuss First off, let's make it known that the Cardinals were ranked 11thh. So, while you were right, they weren't in the top 10, they were barely out of it. With that being said, I think it's fair. The most important position for the Cards, or any NFL team - the quarterback - isn't set for the next three years. Arizona has improved its drafting and is well stocked with youth, but there are other positions, especially on defense, that don't have clear options for the next few years, namely inside linebacker and the defensive line aside from Calais Campbell. For the most part, Arizona does have stability at most positions over the next three years just not enough to warrant a top 10 ranking. @joshweinfuss I think there are both position battles to watch and players who are rehabbing to keep your eye on. I think the fight at right cornerback between Jerraud Powers and Justin Bethel is an interesting one, as is right tackle between Bobby Massie and D.J. Humphries. I'll also be keeping an eye on the rotation battle at safety. The rehabbing players to watch are, obviously, Carson Palmer, Tyrann Mathieu, Jonathan Cooper and Andre Ellington. But another one to keep an eye on will be tight end Troy Niklas. @joshweinfuss According to them they are. Stanton's knee has been healthy for a while as has Mathieu's. Are you asking if Justin Bethel is still on the roster? Yes. Will he be for a while? Yes. @joshweinfuss I think this will be one of the most intriguing storylines of training camp and the first month of the season. Humphries is obviously the future at right tackle, but the question becomes how soon will Arizona decide to enter the future? Another question will be at what point will Humphries be ready to take over? I think the odds are, right now, 50-50 that Humphries will steal Massie's job. Wait until the Cards put on pads to ask me that again.
