Cardinals cornerback Tyrann Mathieu returns to LSU for season opener

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Time heals.

That seemed to be the message on Saturday when Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu returned to LSU for the Tigers season-opener against McNeese State in Baton Rouge. Any hard feelings between LSU and Mathieu stemming from 2012, when Mathieu was kicked off the team for failing multiple drug tests, have either been resolved or forgotten. Since, Mathieu was drafted by the Cardinals in 2013 but his professional career has been marred by a knee injury his rookie season and a fractured thumb last season. Mathieu has stood out, though, during training camp, regaining his Honey Badger edge along with his health.

Mathieu, who joined Cardinals cornerback and former LSU teammate Patrick Peterson on the trip, watched the game from the LSU sideline.

The pair, who played together at LSU in 2010, helped break down the pregame huddle.

Mathieu and LSU running back Leonard Fournette grew up in the same area and went to the same high school, albeit a few years apart.
