With the 2015 season in the rear-view mirror, the Arizona Cardinals have moved on to preparing for next season.
Arizona has 15 unrestricted and four restricted free agents who are set to hit the open market March 9. Over the next two weeks, I will take a detailed look at each position that is slated to have a free agent and what the likelihood is of those players returning in 2016 on a high, medium or low scale.
Next up, wide receiver…
Restricted free agent: Jaron Brown
2015 stats: 11 receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown
2015 salary: $585,000
Likelihood of returning: Medium
Why: Brown is the type of receiver Arizona could move on without because he was the team’s fifth receiver and didn’t have much of an impact last season. But he’s reliable. He had just one drop in 2015 and had 11 catches on 23 targets. As a possession receiver when the Cardinals need to go down the depth chart, Brown is a viable option. Where the Cardinals would miss him the most, however, would be on special teams. He’s a speedy gunner opposite Pro Bowler Justin Bethel. But keeping Brown will likely come down to finances. If a team offers Brown enough, the Cardinals may just let him go.
