With the NFL scouting combine starting this week, the Arizona Cardinals will begin narrowing their focus on what their needs and wants are for the 2016 NFL draft. Over the next week, I’ll take a look at select prospects that fit some of the Cardinals' most pressing needs.
Name: T.J. Green
Position: Safety
School: Clemson
Height: 6-foot-1 1/2
Weight: 210
Position rank: 10
Analysis: A self-described “rangy” safety, Green said he’s as comfortable playing the run in the box as he is coming down and covering the slot. He said he’s played a variety of coverages at Clemson, which would help his pro stock.
“I feel like stepping into any system can be successful for me,” Green said.
As a blitzer, Green said his speed makes it tough for offensive linemen to defend him.
“It’s going to be hard for a tackle to drop back and try to stop me coming off the edge,” Green said. “I think it’s pretty effective.”
Green watches film of Kansas City safety Eric Berry to glean whatever he can from the Pro Bowler’s game.
“Just his physical style of play and just the way he hits, and his coverage, it’s solid,” Green said. “Our game is really kind of similar.”
