Cardinals in talks with Chargers about joint preseason practices

TEMPE, Ariz. -- San Diego has long been a popular destination for Arizonans to find a respite from the brutal summer heat of the desert.

This August, the Arizona Cardinals might be joining them for a few days near the ocean.

The Cardinals are in talks with the San Diego Chargers to hold joint practices during the week leading up to their Aug. 19 preseason game, coach Bruce Arians said after Tuesday’s OTA practice. As of now, it’s just a “possibility,” Arians said.

University of Phoenix Stadium, where the Cardinals began holding their training camp in 2013, will be hosting a Guns N’ Roses concert on Aug. 15.

It would be the first time both teams participated in joint practices under their current head coaches.

The Cardinals last participated in a joint practice in 2012, when they spent a week practicing against the Kansas City Chiefs in St. Joseph, Missouri, leading up to their preseason game. The Chargers last participated in one in 2012 with the Dallas Cowboys.
