Time for Falcons' backup quarterback plan to take shape

The Atlanta Falcons conclude the preseason at 7 p.m. ET Thursday vs. the Baltimore Ravens at the Georgia Dome. Here are a couple of things watch for during the game:

Why watch: A number of guys will be battling for jobs with the 75-man roster needing to be shaved to 53 by 4 p.m. Saturday. Two of those guys are quarterbacks Rex Grossman and Sean Renfree, vying for backup consideration behind starter Matt Ryan. T.J. Yates got an extended look last week, so Thursday should give Grossman and Renfree a chance to see significant action. Grossman just joined the team, but has knowledge of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's scheme from their days together with the Washington Redskins. Renfree has underwhelmed this preseason and might end up on the practice squad if Grossman shines.

Also watch a handful of draft picks on the roster bubble: Dezmen Southward (third round), Stansly Maponga (fifth), Tyler Starr (seventh), Cliff Matthews (seventh), and Renfree (seventh). Lastly, see if the offensive line shows any positive signs following last week's implosion in Miami.

Did you know: The Ravens lead the all-time preseason series between the teams, 7-3, with six of those wins coming in Atlanta.
