The Baltimore Ravens waived wide receiver Aaron Mellette and outside linebacker Adrian Hamilton, both of whom spent last season on injured reserve.
Releasing Mellette was somewhat of a surprise because the 2013 seventh-round draft pick showed potential in the preseason last season. But Mellette was still having problems with his surgically repaired knee this offseason.
Mellette and Hamilton were going to have a tough time making the team because the Ravens have depth at wide receiver and linebacker.
The Ravens could use one of their two open roster spots on a free-agent cornerback. Drayton Florence, Aaron Ross, Dominique Franks and Marquice Cole are working out for the Ravens on Tuesday. The Ravens have also expressed interest in Brandon Flowers.
UPDATE: Coach John Harbaugh said Mellette and Hamilton both failed physicals. "We will continue to monitor those guys in the next six weeks and see where they are," Harbaugh said.
