Ravens re-sign underrated defensive end Lawrence Guy

Free-agent defensive end Lawrence Guy was scheduled to make a visit to the New York Jets on Thursday, and he ended up making a return trip to the Baltimore Ravens.

Guy, 25, an underrated backup last season, re-signed with the Ravens on Wednesday, agreeing to a two-year deal. The Ravens added experience depth to their defensive line on Wednesday by bringing back Guy and Chris Canty.

This is another solid move by the Ravens because Guy is the type of steady role player that makes their defensive line so strong. Signed in Week 4 last season after being waived by the Chargers, he inched up the team's depth chart and even started a game when Canty was injured. He immediately fit into the team's rotation as a hard-nosed run defender.

There really wasn't much of a dropoff from Canty to Guy. Pro Football Focus ranked Guy No. 61 among defensive linemen, which was two spots behind starter Canty.

This could mark the first time that Guy will play two full seasons for the same organization after bouncing around four teams in four NFL seasons (Green Bay, Indianapolis, San Diego and Ravens).
