Predicting the 2015 season: Week 5

Over the next two weeks, we're making predictions for all 75 Big 12 games of the season. We continue the series today with Week 5.

Iowa State 27, Kansas 21: A relatively must-win game for both teams goes to the Cyclones, whose weapons at wide receiver prove to be a major matchup problem for Kansas’ inexperienced secondary. Allen Lazard and Quenton Bundrage combine for three touchdowns to give Iowa State a nice 3-1 start.

Oklahoma 34, West Virginia 31 (OT): In one of the Big 12’s more sneaky entertaining games of the season, Skyler Howard has answers for everything the Sooners throw at him and drives to tie it up in the final minute and force overtime. After a Josh Lambert field goal, Dede Westbrook snags the 25-yard game-winner.

Oklahoma State 31, Kansas State 14: The Pokes get some nice revenge for last year’s blowout thanks to a killer day from their defense, which picks on quarterback Alex Delton to the tune of three takeaways. Without much help from KSU’s run game, the freshman endures his first tough outing.

TCU 30, Texas 20: Do you like defense? Because defense makes all the difference in this one. Trevone Boykin’s erratic first half opens the door for the Longhorns, but they can’t take advantage because of their own quarterback troubles. The Frogs go to the ground and break through in the fourth quarter for a nice statement win.

Baylor 56, Texas Tech 42: Do you like fireworks? This series rarely disappoints, and AT&T Stadium gets another fun fight. Baylor and Tech don’t combine for 1,000 yards this time, but they do trade scores early and often. The game turns on turnovers and Tech mistakes in the red zone late, but the Bears get a much-needed challenge.
