Kansas at Iowa State could be the closest game of a busy Big 12 weekend

David Beaty is thankful for Mark Mangino giving him a chance, writes Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star.

"I'm not sure I deserved it," Beaty told Dodd. "But he gave me a chance. I'll be forever grateful to him."

Kansas' first-year head coach will meet head to head with Mangino -- the former Kansas coach who is now the offensive coordinator at Iowa State -- when the Jayhawks visit Iowa State on Saturday. The Big 12 features plenty of interesting battles this weekend, but the matchup between the Jayhawks and Cyclones could end up being the most competitive game of the weekend after an average of 2.2 points has separated the teams in their past 10 meetings. Iowa State has won six of those meetings.

This game is the best chance for a win in Big 12 play for both teams, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. The Cyclones have a 90.1 projected win percentage with Texas (38.8) standing as Iowa State's next best chance to win.

Meanwhile, Kansas' 9.9 projected win percentage is the highest among its remaining games. The Jayhawks' projected win-loss record is 0.3-11.7 and Kansas State (7) is the only other remaining game with a projected win percentage above five.
