Predicting the 2016 season: Week 6

Preseason camp has not begun, so making predictions may seem like folly. Some of our annual Big 12 season predictions have been on the money while others have been way off base in the past. But why should that stop us?

Over the next couple of weeks we will be making predictions for every Big 12 game this season. We continue our predictions with Week 6:

Oklahoma State 44, Iowa State 21: The Cowboys have the most balanced offensive display of the season with five different players scoring touchdowns in the victory. Quarterback Mason Rudolph passes for one touchdown and rushes for another as Oklahoma State scores 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. For the second straight season, Marcell Ateman dominates the Cyclones' secondary with six receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown. He had eight receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown against Iowa State in 2015.

TCU 48, Kansas 10: For the first time since joining the Big 12, TCU knocks off the Jayhawks by more than two touchdowns. Horned Frogs receiver KaVontae Turpin explodes for three touchdowns -- scoring as a rusher, receiver and returner -- helping TCU continue its undefeated start to the 2016 season. TCU wins the turnover battle against the Jayhawks for the first time since they became conference foes, forcing three and committing one.

Kansas State 38, Texas Tech 37: K-State’s defense puts an end to Tech’s undefeated start as the Wildcats' fourth-quarter rally is helped by a pair of Tech turnovers and a pair of touchdowns from Charles Jones. The Red Raiders' defense is overwhelmed in the final 15 minutes as K-State wears down the unit to completely dominate the fourth quarter and steal a late win. Redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Delton is a surprise star of the win, rushing for more than 100 yards in a special package the Wildcats devise to give their young quarterback the chance to impact games.

Oklahoma 31, Texas 17: Vengeance is pretty sweet for Oklahoma, which responds to its first loss of the season by cruising to a win against the Longhorns in the Red River Showdown after last season's disappointing loss to Charlie Strong's squad. Baker Mayfield finds Geno Lewis to give the Sooners an early lead, then Samaje Perine takes over the game. The junior running back rushes for 177 yards, nearly doubling his career output against the Longhorns. He had 98 yards and 3.5 yards per carry during his first two meetings with Texas.
