Both Kansas State coach Bill Snyder and Colorado coach Dan Hawkins weren't prepared to reveal their starting quarterbacks for their team's opening game when asked Monday during the Big 12's weekly media teleconference.
Snyder said he has already decided on the Wildcats' starter Saturday against Massachusetts, but will wait until Tuesday's weekly press conference to reveal his decision between junior Carson Coffman and senior transfer Grant Gregory.
"We think we'll know which way to go," Snyder said, adding that Saturday's game could be an audition for both players. "We're not in a position and it's never been our philosophy to say it's there for years. We want to make it competitive. And if (the backup) continues to improve, he always has the opportunity for the No. 1 slot. Whoever goes on the field will have to perform well enough to keep the job."
That's why he plans to wait until Sunday to announce his starter for the Buffaloes' season opener against Colorado State.
"It’s not a big deal, but we won't know until Sunday," Hawkins said. " Both of them have done a nice job. We have two guys who understand a system and who can make plays. I think we have two guys who are capable of helping us out."
