Texas A&M adds USC, Oregon to future schedules

Texas A&M has added future upcoming home-and-home series against USC and Oregon.

The Aggies are finishing up plans for a series against USC in 2015 and 2016. And A&M will travel to Oregon in 2018 with a return game scheduled in College Station in 2019.

"When you combine USC and Oregon with the nonconference games we have planned with Arkansas, SMU and the others in the coming seasons, I think our future football schedules will be challenging and highly entertaining," Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said.

Texas A&M and USC have met three previous times on the football field, including twice in bowl games. The last time the schools met was in the 1977 Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston with USC claiming a 47-28 victory. USC also claimed a 20-0 victory in the 1975 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn., and a 31-7 triumph in a regular-season game played in Los Angeles in 1964.

Oregon and Texas A&M have never played before. Byrne formerly served as the athletic director at Oregon from 1984 to 1992.

The last time the Aggies met a Pac-10 opponent in a regular-season game was a 10-7 triumph over No. 17 Stanford in the 1992 Pigskin Classic in Anaheim. The last visit by a Pac-10 school to Kyle Field came in 1987, when A&M dropped 10th-ranked Washington, 29-12.

This is a good announcement for the Aggies, whose nonconference schedules have left a little bit to be desired in recent seasons. And adding two national powers in upcoming seasons should enable the school to boost its national awareness and help recruiting.
