Third-stringer Florence leads Baylor to 31-15 victory over Kent St.

Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Griffin

It was a nice effort by Baylor third-string quarterback Nick Florence who made the most of his first career start.

Florence passed for 216 yards and added 60 rushing yards and two TDs to direct the Bears' 31-15 victory over Kent State.

It pushed them to 3-1 in nonconference play. That record was hoped to catapult them into a bowl game before the start of the season.

But those thoughts are problematic at best after Robert Griffin's injury.

Baylor coach Art Briles won't complain too much tonight about that.

He's just happy that Florence played as well as he did when he desperately needed him.
