Big 12 recruiting scorecard

It's the final countdown. Less than one month until national signing day. Here's the latest on each Big 12 team's recruiting efforts:

BAYLOR

Total commits: 14

ESPN 300 commits: 3

ESPN JC50 commits: 1

Class rank: 24th

The latest: With their class nearly full, Art Briles' staff can devote the next month to a few key remaining targets and shift the rest of the attention to 2016. ESPN 300 defensive backs Kris Boyd and Holton Hill figure to be at the top of the board now. Boyd put out a top five of Baylor, Texas, Florida State, Texas A&M and TCU, while the Bears' top competition for Hill at this point is Texas, Alabama and LSU.

IOWA STATE

Total commits: 16

ESPN 300 commits: 0

ESPN JC50 commits: 1

Class rank: Not ranked

The latest: This has been a rather slow-moving class for Paul Rhoads and his staff. A slew of four junior college commitments arrived in December, and three have already signed, but it'll be interesting to see what kind of momentum ISU can produce with January official visits. Landing Coffeyville C.C. tackle Jaypee Philbert would've been a nice coup, and the Cyclones were a contender, but the big man picked Arizona State on Dec. 27.

KANSAS

Total commits: 21

ESPN 300 commits: 0

ESPN JC50 commits: 0

Class rank: Not ranked

The latest: We've mentioned in this space before that 2016 RB Aubrey White was the kind of steal that Kansas will have to fight hard to keep over the next year. Well, guess who joined the Wylie (Texas) East back's offer list this weekend? Alabama. David Beaty is a master recruiter of the DFW area and might have to put in some serious work on White as that list keeps growing.

KANSAS STATE

Total commits: 16

ESPN 300 commits: 0

ESPN JC50 commits: 0

Class rank: Not ranked

The latest: The last pledge Kansas State received came from DE Kyle Ball, a 6-foot-2, 228-pound lineman from nearby Shawnee Mission East High in Kansas. Ball is expected to grayshirt, meaning he'll delay his enrollment until the spring of 2016. The decision to grayshirt eventually paid off big for K-State stars Ty Zimmerman, Dante Barnett and Curry Sexton, and few coaches utilize that exception better than Bill Snyder.

OKLAHOMA

Total commits: 18

ESPN 300 commits: 8

ESPN JC50 commits: 3

Class rank: 20th

The latest: Bad news on Friday, good news on Saturday. The Sooners missed out on No. 3 rated ILB Anthony Wheeler, who surprised many by picking Texas at the Under Armour All-America Game. But DT Neville Gallimore stuck with OU and made his commitment at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday. Canada's top recruit turned down Ohio State and Florida State.

OKLAHOMA STATE

Total commits: 17

ESPN 300 commits: 2

ESPN JC50 commits: 1

Class rank: 34th

The latest: The Cowboys missed out on landing one of the nation's top recruits on Friday. New Orleans WR Tyron Johnson, ESPN's No. 2 rated receiver, had OSU and Texas Tech in his top three but ended up staying close to home and committing to LSU. The appeal of those Big 12 offenses was a major sell for Johnson, but not enough to get him away from the Tigers.

TCU

Total commits: 22

ESPN 300 commits: 0

ESPN JC50 commits: 0

Class rank: 36th

The latest: The Frogs did a nice job of adding some final pieces to the class with five December commitments -- the most recent coming from DE Tipa Galea'i, brother of OSU lineman Lemaefe Galea'i -- but the biggest catch is still left. Five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack named TCU his leader on Sunday. He'll still consider Texas A&M and is taking an official visit to Texas, but Mack's interest in joining Gary Patterson's squad is getting serious. Mack took an official visit to Fort Worth for the blowout of Texas Tech.

TEXAS

Total commits: 27

ESPN 300 commits: 12

ESPN JC50 commits: 1

Class rank: 9th

The latest: Charlie Strong is on one wild hot streak to start the new year. Texas landed five commitments in four days, including two top-100 prospects (Wheeler and TE Devonaire Clarington) and the completion of its "Florida Five" gang: Clarington, DBs Davante Davis and Tim Irvin and WR Gilbert Johnson to go along with LB Cecil Cherry. Assuming current WR pledge John Burt flips to Auburn as expected, Texas has six spots left in its class and some big-name targets still on the table.

TEXAS TECH

Total commits: 16

ESPN 300 commits: 4

ESPN JC50 commits: 0

Class rank: 30th

The latest: The Red Raiders have not found their quarterback for the 2015 class, but they locked up a pretty good one for 2016 on Sunday. Three-star Tristen Wallace hails from powerhouse DeSoto (Texas) High and committed to Tech as an athlete. He missed part of his junior season with a broken ankle but has big size and big potential. Tech also joined Oklahoma and Washington State in offering rising Dallas CB Antoine Stephens, one of the great sleepers in Texas for this class.

WEST VIRGINIA

Total commits: 23

ESPN 300 commits: 3

ESPN JC50 commits: 1

Class rank: Not ranked

The latest: WVU parted ways with three-star RB William Cameron, who'd been committed since November 2013. The Mountaineers still have commitments from two other three-star backs, Deamonte Lindsay and Alex Anderson, and are battling with Notre Dame and Louisville for talented ESPN 300 ATH Jordan Cronkrite.
