Colt McCoy had been planning to pop the question to his fiancée, Rachel Glandorf, for several weeks.
McCoy took advantage of favorable circumstances to propose to Glandorf Sunday night at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, shortly after he returned from an examination of his injured shoulder from Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., earlier in the day.
“We went to the doctor and had a great report and got home. Then, I decided on my agent and where I would go to train and rehab,” McCoy said. “All of that was really positive. I just decided to go for the No. 3 positive thing that day.”
Glandorf is a former Baylor track athlete who was an intern for KEYE, the CBS television affiliate in Austin. That presumably is how she met the former Texas quarterback.
The proposal was made inside the stadium with the question flashed on the facility’s giant scoreboard. Glandorf quickly accepted.
“She walked right into my plan,” McCoy said. “I had it all set up and it was pretty special.”
The engagement ring was designed by McCoy, who developed plans and had to travel to several jewelers before it could be commissioned to his specifications.
“I wanted it to be special for her, like no other ring,” McCoy said. “I got the ring over the Christmas break and kind of kept it as a secret. Nobody knew but my mom.
“It was a fun process. Finally, I went in and they said they would make it. We got it worked out and it was pretty cool.”
McCoy is excited about the engagement.
“She’s awesome and if anything, she makes me better than I am,” McCoy said. “I know she has my full support and she’s a great girl. She’s been a blessing to me and my family. I know we’ll have a great relationship.”
