NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. updated his Big Board this week, and there's a Big 12 logjam near the top between two players who both leave among the best players in their program's history.
Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon, save Barry Sanders, may grab that title in Stillwater, but he checks in as the highest Big 12 player on the Big Board, at No. 5.
"Blackmon did it again in the Fiesta Bowl and has cemented his gaudy film status," Kiper wrote. "A better prospect than recent OSU star Dez Bryant. Versatile, explosive and really works to get open. Great ball skills, breaks tackles."
He caught eight passes for 186 yards and three scores in the Fiesta Bowl to bring his two-year total to 232 catches, 3,304 yards and 38 touchdowns. Insane.
But Robert Griffin III's stock at Baylor has skyrocketed over the past few months as scouts have more closely analyzed his game film.
He's at No. 6 on Kiper's board.
"I'm not buying any talk that he'd be higher on some boards than [Andrew] Luck, but he certainly could be in the mix as the No. 2 pick if St. Louis deals," Kiper wrote. "Great kid, underrated passer, big-time athlete. No ill effects from 2009 knee injury. Remarkable numbers."
Griffin won the Heisman and topped the previous NCAA record for passing efficiency, though Wisconsin's Russell Wilson finished higher than him this season in the stat. He threw for 37 scores and just six picks during his career-changing season.
