NEWPORT, R.I. -- Lots of notes, quotes and even videos from Big East media day to come, but please be patient while I sort through all my chicken-scratch handwriting and digital recorders to bring it to you.
In the meantime, a bit of news. The Big East has decided to issue weekly injury reports this year, similar to the ACC. The league will send out something on Monday saying which players are out for the year or undergoing surgery. Then later in the week, the conference will have a list of injuries for each team, with players listed as probable, questionable, doubtful or out.
Spokesman John Paquette said the coaches came up with the idea this weekend, which is interesting. If all the coaches comply with the policy, then everybody will be on equal footing when it comes to injury news, instead of one team being coy and the other being open.
We'll see how it works, but anything that provides more information to the fans has to be a good thing, right?
It wasn't a big day of actual news in Newport, since commissioner John Marinatto told all coaches not to speculate or comment on expansion/realignment possibilities. The biggest news may have been that West Virginia running back Noel Devine couldn't leave his hotel room and attend any of the media activities; he was sick, apparently from eating the seafood at Monday night's clam bake.
So, yes, there is a way to slow down Noel Devine. You just need shellfish to do it.
Much more to come ...
