Ultimate Big East road trip: Week 10

I did not forget about my super fun Ultimate Road Trip series. Big East spring meetings put the completion on the back burner.

So let us pick up where we left off. For those just joining in, I am selecting the games I would choose to see each and every week this season. My editors usually do that for me. But if the scheduling were up to me, this is where I would want to go.

Here is the Week 10 schedule:

Sat., Nov. 3

  • Syracuse at Cincinnati

  • UConn at USF

  • Temple at Louisville

  • Pitt at Notre Dame

My choice: Pitt at Notre Dame

Why: Be honest with yourselves. The Big East slate of games this week does not scream out, 'Must see TV!' At least Pitt-Notre Dame will have some national interest because this is one of the longer-standing rivalries the Irish have in their history. Plus, it is on national TV. Maybe this will be the new big rivalry game for the Panthers, what with the Backyard Brawl coming to an end.

While the game has no implications on the Big East race, its placement is interesting for the Panthers because it comes smack dab in the middle of conference play. They will then only have a short week for a game at UConn the following Friday. New coach Paul Chryst is going to have to make sure he keeps his team focused for the games before and after Notre Dame, because the Panthers should be favored to win them. They get Temple in Week 9.

Pitt should have beaten Notre Dame last year, but lost in the fourth quarter. The Panthers might catch the Irish at a good time, because they play at Oklahoma the previous week. In fact, their four-game stretch before facing Pitt features Miami, Stanford and BYU as well.
