Big East recruiting scorecard

Recruiting never fails to capture the imagination and time of college football fans. My colleagues over at ESPN Recruiting Nation do a terrific job following all the latest happenings in recruiting, so it is time to start passing their good work on to you.

I am going to begin an occasional look at where Big East teams stand with this handy dandy recruiting scorecard. I know how much all of you out there want your recruiting updates, so I hope you find this helpful.

So far, no Big East team has secured a commitment from an ESPN 150 prospect. Louisville has commitments from two four-star players -- the only Big East team with a four-star on its list.

2013 verbal commitments: 3

Spotlight: The Bearcats have two three-star quarterbacks who have made commitments -- Alton Meeks from Orlando, and Kyle Kempt from Massillon, Ohio. Meeks is ranked the No. 36 quarterback prospect in the nation; Kempt No. 37.

2013 verbal commitments: 3

Spotlight: None of the three Huskies' commitments are ranked by ESPN Recruiting. The most recent commitment came from Tommy Hopkins, a 6-foot-6, 282-pound offensive tackle out of New York.

2013 verbal commitments: 8

Spotlight: Coach Charlie Strong continues to recruit heavily in Florida, with three commitments from the state. The highest rated commitment is four-star linebacker Donel Elam, out of Orange Park, Fla. The Cardinals also have a commitment from four-star cornerback Ryan White out of Louisville, and two three-stars as well.

2013 verbal commitments: 4

Spotlight: The Panthers' highest-rated commitment is from three-star tight end Scott Orndoff. All four commits are from Pennsylvania. The Panthers did lose one from offensive lineman Dan Samuelson, who changed his mind and committed to Nebraska.

2013 verbal commitments: 4

Spotlight: The Scarlet Knights have commitments from two three-star athletes, and got their most recent one from running back Dontea Ayres out of Maryland, ranked No. 39 in the nation at his position.

2013 verbal commitments: 2

Spotlight: USF got off to a bit of a slow start last year as well, but closed strong. This year, the Bulls have commits from two three-stars. They also had one from four-star quarterback Asiantii Woulard, but he has de-committed. Getting a quarterback in this class is a huge priority.

2013 verbal commitments: 4

Spotlight: The Orange have commitments from two quarterbacks and fullback Tyler Provo, brother of former Syracuse tight end Nick Provo. Junior college transfer Wayne Williams also has committed.

2013 verbal commitments: 1

Spotlight: The Owls just picked up their first commitment, offensive tackle Shane Rafter out of Moorestown, N.J. It will be interesting to see how they end up doing on the recruiting trail in Year 1 as Big East members.
