There has been some headline-grabbing recruiting news since the last time I updated the Big East recruiting scorecard.
Pitt, USF and Rutgers each picked up four-star commitments. Now Louisville, USF and Rutgers have two four-stars each, leading the conference. Rutgers has the most commitments in the conference with 12; UConn the fewest with five. Now here is a quick update:
CINCINNATI
2013 verbal commitments: 11
Spotlight: The Bearcats have gotten three more commitments in the past two weeks, including one from two-star athlete Demetrius Monday out of Georgia. Four of their commits are now from Florida and Georgia; six are from Ohio.
UCONN
2013 verbal commitments: 5
Spotlight: No new commitments.
LOUISVILLE
2013 verbal commitments: 10
Spotlight: Louisville started off hot, but in the past month, the Cardinals have gotten one commit -- offensive guard Chandler Bridges out of Flowery Branch, Ga. Still, every single one of their commitments is rated with either three stars or four stars.
PITT
2013 verbal commitments: 11
Spotlight: It has been a big few weeks for the Panthers, as they got a commitment from ESPN 300 running back Corey Clement, and also picked up a commitment from the No. 20 dual-threat quarterback in the country, three-star Tra'von Chapman of Kent, Ohio. They are also working on major area of need: offensive line. The Panthers picked up their second offensive line commit in Carson Baker out of Ohio.
RUTGERS
2013 verbal commitments: 12
Spotlight: Coach Kyle Flood has done everything he can to continue the momentum from last season, picking up commitments from four-star quarterback Chris Laviano and four-star athlete Myles Nash in the past two weeks. In fact, the past two weeks have been the busiest of the recruiting period for the Scarlet Knights -- with six total commitments. Three-star Taylor Marini is included in that group along with Josh Klecko, the son of former Jets defensive standout Joe Klecko.
USF
2013 verbal commitments: 9
Spotlight: This has also been a busy two weeks for the Bulls, who have gotten commitments from four-star quarterback Asiantii Woulard, and four-star running back Jojo Kemp. USF also has six commitments since June 15, and picked up several following its Super Bull showcase. Woulard also was selected to participate in the Elite 11 quarterbacks camp.
SYRACUSE
2013 verbal commitments: 7
Spotlight: No new commitments. But quarterback commit Zach Allen was chosen to participate in the Elite 11 quarterbacks camp.
TEMPLE
2013 verbal commitments: 8
Spotlight: All of Temple's commitments have come in the past month. The biggest came from three-star linebacker Buddy Brown, who picked the Owls over offers from schools like Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Temple also got a commitment from three-star quarterback P.J. Walker.
