Rutgers gets transfer Sheldon Royster

South Carolina cornerback Sheldon Royster has transferred to Rutgers, coach Kyle Flood announced Tuesday.

Royster will have to sit out this season because of NCAA transfer rules, and will have three years of eligibility starting in 2013. Royster left South Carolina after preseason camp, following a redshirt freshman season. He joins two of his high school teammates at Rutgers: irunning back Savon Huggins and offensive lineman Keith Lumpkin.

The Scarlet Knights will lose several seniors from its secondary next season, including starter Brandon Jones and Marcus Cooper. Logan Ryan will be a senior as well.
