Look, Alec Lemon is open again … so let's throw another honor his way!
The Syracuse receiver was all over the field Saturday in the Orange's 45-26 beatdown of Louisville, handing the Big East's last unbeaten team its first loss of the season.
Lemon was named the conference's offensive player of the week for his efforts, and he is our player of the week as well.
The senior caught nine passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns in his final game inside the Carrier Dome. His two touchdowns helped spark a 21-0 Orange run in the second quarter.
His 184 career receptions are the most among current Big East players and the most in school history, and his 16 career touchdown receptions are the active conference best as well.
"Alec and I have been through a lot together since we have been here," quarterback Ryan Nassib said afterward. "We have experienced a lot and played a lot and having him go out and have a game like he did today, I couldn't ask for a better teammate."
Lemon had done this before, catching five passes for 73 yards — including a 51-yard touchdown — the last time he faced the Cardinals at home.
This one was sweeter, given the victory.
"It feels great. I always have bad games against Louisville so it's good to get one my senior year," Lemon said. "It really wasn't just me. The offense was rolling. The running game was going with Prince-Tyson [Gulley] and Jerome [Smith]. Ryan [Nassib] was throwing every pass that he needed to make and the offense was clicking."
