No 12th game for Temple

Temple's negotiations with Hawaii have fallen through, the Owls announced Tuesday, meaning there will be no 12th game and, consequently, no bowl appearance for the 3-6 team.

"Temple University went above and beyond normal scheduling procedures in an effort to provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to play in a 12th football game this season," athletic director Bill Bradshaw said in a released statement. "Unfortunately that will not be possible as our negotiations with the University of Hawaii have ended. We felt that we had an agreement in place with the University of Hawaii, but in the end its administration was unable to fulfill it due to unforeseen circumstances."

Temple's leap from the Mid-American Conference to the Big East this past March resulted in a move from eight to seven conference games, leaving the Owls with an empty slot on their schedule. They had tried this season to secure a 12th and final game with the Warriors, since schools are allowed to play at Hawaii for an extra game.

The Owls have just two games remaining, at Army and against Syracuse, meaning even if they win out they will finish 5-6 and fall short bowl eligibility.
