Big Ten Week 3 bowl projections: Iowa, Northwestern move up

We're three weeks in and we have some movement in our (still ludicrously early) Big Ten bowl projections.

No, we're not ready to move Ohio State out of the College Football Playoff, even after two very subpar weeks by the Buckeyes. We still think Urban Meyer's team will pull it together. And we're still not quite ready to say Michigan State can make it two teams in the playoff, though the Big Ten has a compelling argument over the Pac-12 at this point thanks to the Spartans' win over Oregon and Northwestern's victory over USC-slaying Stanford.

Speaking of Northwestern, the Wildcats are one of our big moves this week. It's hard to ignore that Week 1 scalp of the Cardinal, which looks even more impressive in hindsight. The road win at Duke was solid, too. So Pat Fitzgerald and his crew are movin' on up in our projections.

So, too, is Iowa, after its 3-0 start that includes two wins over Power 5 teams. Nebraska drops after yet another tough loss, and the flaming wreckage that is Rutgers bows out after getting blown out by Penn State. Just too much mess and too many rough games remaining for the Scarlet Knights.

Penn State checks back in after dominating Rutgers. We're also swapping out Illinois -- which struggled big-time at North Carolina -- for (take a deep breath) Indiana. It's a big leap of faith, but the Hoosiers have a good chance to start 4-0 if they win at Wake Forest this week. We may regret this choice later.

Here are the latest projections, still highly subject to change:

College Football Playoff: Ohio State

Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual: Michigan State

Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl: Wisconsin

Outback Bowl: Northwestern

National University Holiday Bowl: Iowa

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Michigan

New Era Pinstripe Bowl: Minnesota

Foster Farms Bowl: Nebraska

Quick Lane Bowl: Penn State

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl: Indiana
