Ohio State's spring game losers forced to shovel mulch

Who says spring scrimmages are meaningless?

Tell that to Ohio State’s Scarlet team, which had to show up and shovel mulch Friday after losing last month's scrimmage 28-17 to the Gray squad. Seriously.

No losing players appeared to be spared from mulch duty on Friday. Heisman candidate J.T. Barrett and returning All-Big Ten offensive lineman Pat Elflein were seen digging into the mulch -- as were the rest of the first-team offense and second-team defense.

Even the coaches weren't let off the hook. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson helped oversee the losing team, after all.

Maybe the returning Scarlet players won't circle this game on their calendars next year. But you can bet they'll know there's a little more on the line next time.
