Big Ten in the national polls

The new polls are out, and there has been a little bit of movement for Big Ten teams.

AP Poll

(Previous rank in parentheses)

  • No. 2: Ohio State (2)

  • No. 11: Wisconsin (11)

  • No. 17: Iowa (18)

  • No. 20 Michigan (21)

  • No. 22: Penn State (23)

  • No. 24: Michigan State (25)

Coaches' Poll

  • No. 2: Ohio State (2)

  • No. 9: Wisconsin (9)

  • No. 18: Iowa (18)

  • No. 19: Michigan (22)

  • No. 20: Penn State (20)

  • No. 21: Michigan State (23)

No surprise to see Michigan jump ahead of Penn State in the Coaches' Poll, as the Nittany Lions really struggled for much of their game against Temple. Michigan State can potentially pass both Penn State and Michigan with a win Saturday against Wisconsin. I can't believe Iowa remains behind Texas in the Coaches' Poll. Both were preseason top-10 squads, and Texas' home loss to UCLA is much worse than Iowa's defeat against Arizona. Ohio State has two first-place votes in each poll. Northwestern is receiving votes in both polls but likely needs to take care of business against both Minnesota and Purdue to enter the national rankings before hosting Michigan State on Oct. 23.
