Thanks to back-to-back losses, the Boston Bruins are in serious jeopardy of missing the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.
One of these two scenarios needs to unfold for the currently ninth-seeded Bruins to reach the postseason:
Or, if they earn at least one point in Saturday’s game, they can get in if the reeling Pittsburgh Penguins (losers of four straight) get just one point in their final two games -- against the New York Islanders (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Buffalo Sabres (Saturday at 7 p.m.).
So, Bruins fans, you’ll need to do some scoreboard watching this weekend. There’s a possibility (if the Pens win Friday’s game and the Senators win Saturday afternoon) the Bruins could take the ice on Saturday night with their playoff hopes already dashed.
