JaJuan Johnson during his rookie season in Boston. The Lafayette Journal & Courier caught up with JaJuan Johnson at Saturday's Purdue alumni game. Dealt away as part of a three-team, sign-and-trade deal that brought Courtney Lee to Boston, Johnson reflected on his rookie season in Boston and talked about his future in Houston:
“I got to see the sacrifices that those guys go through,” Johnson said. “I learned what it takes to get there. Boston was a good team to be a part of. It was a great locker room. I definitely will miss that part.
“The year of learning from Kevin Garnett are things I will take with me for the rest of my life ... just being around a good teammate and learning from a guy like him. It was great being around him every day and practicing against him. That’s going to be valuable throughout my whole career.”
Former Purdue and Boston teammate E’Twaun Moore also was part of the deal that brought Lee to Boston, but Moore was waived by the Rockets. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, said he hopes to have an NBA job for Moore very soon.
“I was hoping he would keep coming with me to Houston, and whatever his situation is, I’m hoping it is for the best,” Johnson said. “I know it will work out for him. He is a good player. I’m very confident we both will be in the league somewhere next year.”
