After leading the Washington Wizards to a 133-132 double overtime triumph over the Boston Celtics on Monday, John Wall dedicated the win to 6-year-old Damiyah Telemaque-Nelson, who lost her battle with cancer earlier in the day.
The Wizards held a moment of silence for Miyah before Monday's game. Wall was overcome with emotion while discussing his young friend after the game.
"Emotional game for me, this was for Miyah," Wall said during an interview with Comcast SportsNet. Later he added, "It's just tough, man. To see a little kid that fights so hard for cancer and can't beat it. This game's for her, man."
Later, on Twitter, Wall posted a message that read, "If you were blessed to meet and get to know Miyah you know how special of a little girl she was. I'm saddened by the news but I know that she's in a better place. Keep her family in your prayers. I'll definitely miss my buddy. Rest In Peace Miyah."
