ESPN has confirmed that New Hampton (N.H.) senior point guard Olivier Hanlan made a verbal commitment to Boston College head coach Steve Donahue on Tuesday night, becoming the second player to commit to the Eagles in the class of 2012.
The Gatineau, Quebec native was the fifth highest rated available point guard in the ESPN database. He was on Boston College's campus last weekend for his official visit after visiting Virginia Tech in September. He also considered Virginia, Dayton, and Rice.
"I just really liked my visit. I felt really comfortable with all the coaches, especially with Coach Donahue." Hanlan told ESPN.com "They've been recruiting me since last winter and when I sat down with my family to think about it, that's what it came down to, that and the style of play. Even my old coach from Canada was saying the style of play would fit me perfectly.
ESPN recruiting coordinator Adam Finkelstein thinks this could be a pivotal commitment for Boston College.
"I think this is a potentially huge addition for them [Boston College]," Finkelstein said. "I'm not sure there was a more pure point guard still available in the country and given Hanlan's high I.Q. and skill set, there might not have been a better fit for the way that Boston College likes to play."
