Melrose's Frantzdy Pierrot out for the season

Melrose High head boys basketball coach Mike Kasprzak informed the Boston area high school media this morning that senior forward Frantdzy Pierrot will be out for the season with a broken wrist.

Also a star on the soccer pitch, the 6-foot-3 Pierrot suffered the injury several weeks ago in a match playing with the Seacoast United soccer club.

Last season, Pierrot was named MVP of the Middlesex League after averaging 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. In the MIAA Division 2 playoffs, he averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, all with an injured ankle. The Red Raiders were the state's final remaining unbeaten until they were upset by eventual state champion Brighton in the D2 North semifinals.

The Red Raiders are expected to be a contender in Division 2 this winter. Yesterday, ESPNBoston.com named them preseason No. 15 in its statewide Top 25 countdown.
