Governor's OL/DL Matt Peart commits to UConn

Governor's Academy offensive/defensive lineman Matthew Peart gave a verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut, according to head coach Jim O'Leary.

"I am really happy for Matt. He is a very hard working kid who has huge potential at the next level. Matt loves the game and will work hard to make himself a big time player," O'Leary told ESPNBoston.com.

The 6-foot-8, 265-pound Peart has been a force at both offensive tackle and defensive end for the four-time defending ISL champion Governors, who will play in the Wayne Sanborn Bowl this weekend as they seek a fourth straight NEPSAC bowl championship.

His sudden ascent has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the football football season in Massachusetts. Also a captain for the Governors' basketball team, Peart arrived at the school four years ago from The Bronx, N.Y. having never played football before.

Peart is the 15th recruit from the 2015 Massachusetts high school class to pledge to a Division 1 FBS program. He also joins St. Mark's wide receiver Aaron McLean among the Bay State commitments for UConn.
