Coast-to-coast relay wrapping up

BOSTON -- A monthlong coast-to-coast relay to raise money for a charity aiding marathon bombing victims is wrapping up as runners near the finish line in Boston.

A spokesman for One Run for Boston says the nonstop race began March 16 in Santa Monica, Calif., and is expected to end at 6:15 p.m. Sunday in Boston. At noon, runners were about 20 miles away in Framingham.

More than 2,000 runners ran 3,328 miles through 14 states, raising $425,273 for One Fund Boston, which supports those directly affected by the bombings last year.

An organizer says runners raced through deserts and survived tornadoes and are upbeat that the end is in sight.

Runners also visited the 9/11 memorial in New York City and a memorial for victims of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
