Vollmer stayed in town for workouts

FOXBOROUGH – Second-year offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer is participating in the Patriots' offseason program, but he had been a regular at Gillette Stadium prior to that.

“I was here, kept working out, getting a jump on things,” he said.

This week marks a new phase in his offseason and Vollmer has enjoyed it through two days, as “it’s good to see all the guys being back and getting the camaraderie going.”

Asked what areas he’d like to improve after an impressive rookie season, Vollmer said he couldn’t pinpoint one thing. He talked about how college players coming into the NFL never really get a break to assess their performance – they go from the pre-draft process to learning the system of their NFL team – so he is looking forward to continuing to watch film from 2009.

“Just trying to get a better understanding of the whole system,” he said.

Vollmer did allow himself one vacation in recent months, as he returned home to Germany for a week.
