Gerard Warren could help fill DE void

FOXBORO -- The Patriots have reached agreement with free-agent defensive lineman Gerard Warren, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Warren played the last three seasons for the Oakland Raiders, starting 16 games apiece in each of the last two seasons.

The Patriots did not draft a defensive lineman until the late seventh round, which might have been a factor in quickly striking an agreement with Warren.

The 31-year-old Warren entered the NFL as a first-round draft choice with the Cleveland Browns in 2001 (3rd overall). The Patriots' agreement with Warren marks the fourth player from the University of Florida that the team has acquired in the last two days, joining draft choices Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes and Aaron Hernandez.
