Source: Ogunleye works out for Patriots

Thin on depth at outside linebacker and rush defensive end, the Patriots worked out former Chicago Bears defensive end Adewale Ogunleye on Sunday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Patriots' level of interest is tied to the status of Derrick Burgess, who is considering retirement.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Ogunleye started 14 games last season and registered 6.5 sacks. He ended last season on injured reserve with a small fracture in his fibula. He turns 33 on Aug. 9.

The Patriots have been rotating five outside linebackers/rush ends at practice, with Tully Banta-Cain, Pierre Woods, Jermaine Cunningham, Rob Ninkovich and Marques Murrell.

Burgess would have been part of that group. His decision not to report to camp was unexpected, and it looks like the Patriots are now considering a contingency plan if Burgess follows through on retiring.
