WR Wes Welker on 'Mike & Mike'

Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was a guest on "Mike & Mike in the Morning" on ESPN Radio on Tuesday, and he touched on his thoughts entering the season opener against the Bengals.

"I'm feeling pretty good," Welker said of his recovery from surgery for a torn ACL. "I'm excited and ready for the regular season to start. Just ready to get on the field when it counts."

Welker recapped the mental hurdles he overcame shortly after the surgery.

"It was pretty difficult, especially the first week or so after the surgery," he said. "Having those days where it didn't really feel that well and really just kind of pushing through those days and warming it up and getting it ready. It was just kind of a big process, every single day, six days a week, staying on top of top of it and pushing through those days where I feel like my knee didn't want to do anything."

Welker admitted that he started cutting on the surgically repaired knee without the knowledge of doctors and trainers.

"I did it pretty early on," he said. "I wanted to test it out."
