Examining the guard rotation

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- With Logan Mankins playing his first game for the Patriots on Sunday, the Patriots adopted a three-man rotation with their guards.

Of the team's nine total drives, Mankins played seven of them at left guard. He was on the field for 45 snaps (including penalties).

Dan Connolly played five series in the game -- two at left guard and three at right guard (29 snaps).

Stephen Neal played six series, all at right guard (50 snaps).

Asked to assess Mankins' debut, coach Bill Belichick said: "I think Logan did some good things. It was his first game in a while, so I am sure it will be better going forward – I hope it will. But he did a lot of good things. [He was] solid, but it was his first time playing in a while, so the timing and some of the techniques and all that, I’m sure will improve."
