Brady gearing up for Best Buddies event

In recent years, Tom Brady's work with Best Buddies International has become a mark-the-date event in June. It's on again this year.

Brady is set to serve as honorary chairman of the 12th annual Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hyannis Port, presented by Country Kitchen. The Challenge, a charity walk, run and ride to benefit Best Buddies International, is set for June 3 and 4. More than 1,500 are expected to participate.

Best Buddies, a nonprofit founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"What strikes me most about Best Buddies is the simplicity - and magnitude - of the mission," Brady said in a statement. "Friendship is a simple idea. Connecting people who may not normally be friends and changing the way people think about individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities – that's huge."

Once again, Brady will host a "Football Challenge & Tailgate" as part of the event, and it is set for Friday, June 3 at Harvard Stadium. Brady will play quarterback in the game, along with others, including Tedy Bruschi, Tully Banta-Cain, Julian Edelman and Dan Koppen.

Tickets for the event, as well as information on a raffle to support to effort, are available on the Best Buddies web site.
