Stephen Belichick, the son of Patriots coach Bill Belichick, has joined the Rutgers football team as a long snapper.
As noted by Newark Star-Ledger columnist Steve Politi on Twitter, Stephen Belichick joined the football team over the summer after playing four years of lacrosse for the Scarlet Knights. He had played football at The Rivers School in Weston, Mass., where he was a three-year varsity starter as a linebacker, tight end, fullback and long snapper.
Last August, observers at Patriots training camp noticed how Stephen Belichick was getting tutored on the practice field by special teams coach Scott O'Brien (blog entry here).
On a related note, the Patriots could be in the market for a long snapper in 2012, as returning starter Matt Katula is in the final year of his contract.
