The latest dueling 53-man roster projection has been posted on ESPNBoston.com, and one area that stands out is wide receiver.
The question: Would the Patriots really keep seven of them?
That's what we think.
Chad Ochocinco, Wes Welker and Deion Branch top the depth chart. All figure to be on the team.
The next layer of depth comes with 2010 third-round pick Taylor Price, 2009 third-round pick Brandon Tate, and 2009 seventh-round pick Julian Edelman. All three are not expected to play Thursday night in Tampa because of injuries (the injuries aren't expected to keep them out long).
Then there's special teams ace Matthew Slater, who has quietly put together a nice camp.
If the Patriots keep seven receivers, they'll have to trim from another area (e.g. one fewer running back, from 5 to 4). Another factor to keep in mind is the long-term view. While seven might be a bit rich for 2011, Welker and Branch are in the final year of their contracts, so there needs to be consideration for the future as well.
Who stays and who goes?
