Quick hits from the locker room

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Quick hits from the media-access period in the locker room Friday:

1. The big news in the locker room on Friday morning was the release of veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden. The move took players by surprise, and Bodden's locker and personal belongings were still intact during the media access period in the locker room, with Bodden's empty equipment travel bag on the floor in front of his locker stall.

2. Cornerback Josh Victorian, who was released from the practice squad on Tuesday but had his locker nameplate remain intact all week, was back in the locker room on Friday. His return, if to the practice squad, will require a corresponding roster move, as the team's practice squad is full at eight players, including cornerbacks Malcolm Williams and Sterling Moore.

3. Players drawing large media crowds included offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, running backs Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen, and wide receivers Wes Welker and Deion Branch. It was Cannon's first official interview since being drafted by the Patriots in April.

4. After ending his Friday morning press conference with a "Go Cards," head coach Bill Belichick dusted off his Tony La Russa jersey and walked back through the locker room wearing it. Belichick and the St. Louis Cardinals manager are well-known friends.
