Picked-up Patriots pieces

A few picked-up Patriots pieces from the day:

1. McDaniels' official title. Josh McDaniels' official title with the team is offensive coordinator/quarterbacks. That was the same post McDaniels had prior to leaving in 2009 to become Broncos head coach, and the same title Bill O'Brien had in 2011. Elsewhere on the coaching staff, the Patriots have yet to announce a replacement for tight ends coach Brian Ferentz, or any other hires. Outside of Ferentz and O'Brien, all other top assistants have returned in 2012.

2. Preseason schedule is on the way. The NFL is scheduled to announce the 2012 preseason slate on Wednesday. The Patriots were on the road for the second and third preseason games last year, which are the contests in which the top players usually play the most. The Patriots and Giants have met in the preseason finale in each of the last seven years.

3. Brady and Welker ready to roll. In New York earlier today, Wes Welker called his trip to Costa Rica a highlight of his offseason. He enjoyed his time with Tom Brady as well. "I think we enjoyed the break, enjoyed being away," he said of Brady. "At the same time, you’re excited about getting back and getting back out there on the field. ... We’re definitely excited."
