Louisiana State cornerback Ron Brooks was spotted around Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, spending time with his former teammate, second-year Patriots running back Stevan Ridley.
Brooks, who is viewed as a mid-round pick by some analysts, was presumably taking a pre-draft visit to the Patriots. He previously worked out for the club with some other LSU players.
At 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, Brooks is a "talented, versatile cornerback who was overshadowed in college football's deepest secondary full of draft picks," according to the Pro Football Weekly Draft Preview. He never held a full-time starter role, but was productive when he was on the field (he has three career interceptions and all three were returned for touchdowns).
Brooks, who had a 38-inch vertical, is also considered a top special teams player.
The Patriots' assumed interest in Brooks highlights how pre-draft visits, although limited in number, are held with prospects at all levels of the draft.
