WR Gaffney pulls up at practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Veteran receiver Jabar Gaffney pulled up in the middle of Wednesday’s training camp practice and didn’t return, with members of the team’s athletic training staff working on his right hamstring on the sideline.

Gaffney didn’t return to the locker room after the injury, which could be an indication that the injury isn’t severe.

With Gaffney sidelined and receiver Brandon Lloyd returning to practice but having a lighter load, it gave more reps to receivers Deion Branch, Donte’ Stallworth and Julian Edelman in the competition for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.

The other big news was the return of tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez to the full-pads practice. Gronkowski had missed the previous three days of practice, while Hernandez sat out the previous two. Obviously, it wasn’t anything serious.

Meanwhile, offensive lineman Logan Mankins slightly upped his workload. He dressed in full pads for the second straight day, and while he didn’t take part fully in team drills, he took part in two-on-twos as he begins the process of acclimating to contact.

More observations to come.
