Players not expected to play tonight

The Patriots host the Philadelphia Eagles in a preseason Monday Night Football contest tonight (8 p.m., ESPN). It's the first of three games in a span of 10 days for the Patriots, and could be an opportunity for the team to hold some players out in order to manage their health.

In Friday's practice, quarterback Tom Brady, receiver Brandon Lloyd (who missed two practices early last week), and tight end Rob Gronkowski worked off to the side when the rest of the team was preparing for tonight's game, a sign that they may see little, if any, action tonight.

Receiver Wes Welker could be in the same category, having left Friday's practice early for what appeared to be non-injury reasons. Tight end Aaron Hernandez missed three practices last week, and may also be held out of tonight's game.

Otherwise, based on attendance and participation in recent practices, the following players are not expected to play tonight:

RB Stevan Ridley

RB Jeff Demps

FB Spencer Larsen

WR Jabar Gaffney

TE Daniel Fells

TE Visanthe Shiancoe

TE Jake Ballard (Active/PUP)

T Sebastian Vollmer

T Matt Kopa

T Kyle Hix

T Markus Zusevics (Active/NFI)

G Brian Waters (did not report)

DT Jonathan Fanene

DT Gerard Warren

DT Myron Pryor (Active/PUP)

LB Tracy White

CB Alfonzo Dennard

S Tavon Wilson

S James Ihedigbo

In addition, cornerback Malcolm Williams and fullback Eric Kettani could be among players not in action tonight. Both took part in Friday's shells practice, but did not take part in full pads sessions in the days prior.
